Rhys is a 12 year-old boy living with an auto-immune disorder. He loves sports and being active, and is currently on an Edmonton community basketball team (he’s waiting for clearance from his doctor to play).
Rhys is a big Oilers fan and McDavid is his favourite player. When not playing sports you’ll find him playing sports video games. He also loves Harry Potter and Star Wars.
Something interesting about Rhys is that he plays piano and has a guitar. He considers the day his Aunt gave him his guitar one of his favourite days! Rhys is also looking forward to swimming and exploring the forest. He chose Costa Rica because he wanted to go somewhere warm with beaches and a forest. He plans to see different animals like ocelots, and snorkel on the beaches.

Ayvlin is 10-years-old and living with a brain tumour. Quiet and a little bit shy, she loves spending time with her family, and wanted them to join her on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Italy. While there Ayvlin and her family toured Rome, Venice and Florence, took a pizza-making class and rode in a gondola.
“Our entire family loved the pizza and gelato making class,” says Ayvlin’s mom. “The chef was amazing at explaining everything and helping us all step-by-step. Then we had a fabulous time sitting around the table, enjoying our delicious pizzas and gelato. What a great evening!”
Ayvlin fell in love with the birds in Italy. “On one of our free days, we spent hours in St. Mark’s Square enjoying the live music, the beautiful scenery, and the birds that would perch themselves on our bodies. The kids were ecstatic when they had five birds on them at one time!”
The family’s gondola ride was a unique experience too: “Our kids called it a once in a lifetime opportunity,” notes Ayvlin’s mom. “We were able to relax our feet a little and enjoy a wonderfully peaceful gondola ride after a day of walking. We learned some Venice history, took in the sights from a different perspective, and just enjoyed the beauty of Italy.”
It was a wonderful trip that helped create incredible memories for Ayvlin and her family. “ I can’t express how grateful we all are for everything! Thank you!”

Stephanie is 17 years old and lives with a rare genetic disorder. Since childhood, Stephanie has always wanted to be a marine biologist! When the opportunity to have a wish granted arose, she knew she would wish to visit the Great Barrier Reef.
Stephanie and her dad traveled to Queensland, Australia for the opportunity of a lifetime to swim and snorkel at the Great Barrier Reef: One of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.
They went on an amazing tour that included Sydney, Melbourne, Bondi Beach, and Port Douglas where they snorkeled at the Reef. They had an absolutely amazing experience and were so excited to share all the new facts they learned on their tour. It didn’t sound like they had much time for sleep or rest, but being on the go was a blast for the pair of them!
Both Stephanie and her dad admitted to being incredibly emotional after they visited the Reef. They had long conversations about the impact of the wish and their trip, as well as what comes next for Stephanie’s journey now that her wish has been granted.
“This trip gave us glorious memories and gave faith that memories are still possible to achieve instead of the future being a dead-end street. Let’s live today and make all the memories we can while looking forward to the next. There is still some quality of life yet to live,” said Stephanie’s dad.
Thank you to everyone who helped make Stephanie’s wish unforgettable. The memories Stephanie and her dad share will last a lifetime.

8-year-old Peyton was diagnosed with a Brain Tumor in November 2008. Her wish to go to Hawaii was fuelled by a love for animals and nature. Peyton’s wish was announced at an exciting wish reveal at the kick-off party for Rope for Hope! At the event Peyton went on stage, won a Hawaiian themed contest and discovered that her wish was coming true!
Peyton lives with her mom Christina in Edmonton. She also lives nearby her grandparents and is extremely close with them. Peyton was grateful to be able to travel to Hawaii with her mom and grandma. While in Hawaii Peyton and her family partook in the Chief’s Luau, a day at Sea Life Park and got to experience the Ko Olina Ocean Adventure. Peyton went paddle boarding in the ocean, swam in the hotel pool and learned how to make fire! However one of the highlights of the trip was her time spent swimming with dolphins!
Thank you to everyone that helped make this wish possible: Tracy and her dancers from Hawaiian Holiday Dance Company, WestJet for providing flights to Hawaii for the family, Park’N’Fly Edmonton for providing free airport parking, Leis of Hawaii greeting the family upon arrival, the Sheraton Waikiki for providing a special rate, Sea Life Park Hawaii and Ko Olina Ocean Adventure.
